| Facebook Reveal Tabs Why They Work | So You Think Social Media is Fringe Marketing Watch This! Social Media Revolution 3 |
Social media’s impact on the advertising industry has been understood by any of us who have watched the evolution over the past few years, it has still to filter into some of the advertising agencies mindset, but that won’t take much longer as ‘old advertising’ stops working.. I found this infographic that clearly demonstrates what I am talking about:
Changes to take note of are:
- Customers have changed: Customers now spend a lot of time online, on social media. You need to be seen where your customers are as I continually say to my trainees and clients – meet your customers where THEY are.
- Other forms of marketing are losing sway – as social media becomes a priority for both customers and businesses other forms of marketing are losing ground. Your customers want to make contact, socialise with the brands they choose to do business with and you will have to be a part of that ongoing conversation.
- New digital media tactics required – marketers now need to become familiar with the digital media strategies and tactics that work including video, social networks, sharing, socialisation of your website…
- Metrics of digital and social media are different – measurement includes engagement, shares, Likes, Pluses, leads, visits and brand sentiment.

Couldn’t agree more! Just wish advertisers would appreciate social media a little more … and pay for it accordingly, but I guess we will get there! Will go through the metric in more detail now too. Lots to take in! Alli
I agree Alli it can be difficult to get business owners to value social media, I still get a lot of them who seem to think we are a fringe entity and should be paid accordingly
, I have even heard them say it’s not real marketing and there is no strategy involved, just making conversation online will work… AND as many people are finding out that only results in lost time and no sales…
…but they will soon understand that we are the ones on the frontier of HUGE changes to business and marketing that will last forever!
So true… I think an advertising/media promotion that is interactive and allows for conversation is so powerful. Words of mouth has always been actually one of the strongest adverting modalities and Facebook and other social social media has capitalized on conversation … that’s why it’s so strong… we are a social species!!!
Lots of love
